Indonesia asks Tiktok Shop to reduce imported goods
JAKARTA -- Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi asked Tiktok not to sell many imported goods at the Tiktok Shop, which has resumed operations starting December 12 2023.
"As long as it complies with statutory regulations, we support it. If there are a lot of imported goods, it will be a pity for our MSMEs," said Budi, Wednesday (13/12/2023).
Budi Arie said his team would monitor and remind them not to sell many imported goods through the e-commerce platform which is now partnering with PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GoTo).
The collaboration between TikTok and GoTo means that the shopping service feature in the TikTok application in Indonesia is now operated and managed by Tokopedia.
TikTok stopped operating the TikTok Shop in Indonesia on October 4, after they agreed to comply with government regulations regarding electronic commerce.
TikTok as a social media platform is only allowed to promote goods or services, rather than being a buying and selling transaction platform like e-commerce.
This is in accordance with the revision of Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 50 of 2020 concerning Provisions for Business Licensing, Advertising, Development and Supervision of Business Actors in Trading Through Electronic Systems.
