JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is optimistic that Indonesia's economic growth in 2024 will still be at the five percent level. Jokowi conveyed this in his remarks at the Indonesian Economic Outlook event in Jakarta, Friday (22/12/2023).

President Jokowi said 2024 would be a year full of optimism. Because, he said, Indonesia has capital for optimism both economically and politically.

The Indonesian economy throughout the 2023 quarter will grow above five percent. The President said this figure was much higher than the global average which only grew 2.9 percent. He said this condition was something to be grateful for.

The inflation rate in Indonesia reached 2.86 percent, which is far below the global inflation average of 7.2 percent. Meanwhile, other countries find it difficult to keep inflation low.

Then other indicators also still show good conditions, such as labor absorption which will increase to 4.5 million people in 2023, the manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) level in November 2023 is considered still expansive, namely 51.7, the trade balance is still in surplus for 43 consecutive months, and the consumer confidence index was at 123.6 in November.

However, Jokowi reminded all parties to remain vigilant and careful. This is because global uncertainty continues, the conflict in the Middle East which has triggered an increase in global oil prices is also still occurring.
