Halal products account for the majority of Indonesia's trade balance surplus

JAKARTA – Director General of National Export Development of Indonesia Didi Sumedi revealed that the total trade in Indonesian halal products in the period January to October 2023 reached 53.43 billion US dollars or IDR 82.85 trillion. Of this amount, exports of Indonesian halal products were recorded at 42.33 billion US dollars or IDR 65.64 trillion and imports at 11.10 billion US dollars or IDR 17 trillion.

It is recorded that Indonesia's national trade surplus in 2022 will be recorded at 54.46 billion US dollars. Of the total amount, 87 percent of Indonesia's trade surplus was contributed by halal products.

Didi said that the total halal trade during the past 10 months, both exports and imports, reached 53.43 billion US dollars. The export value of halal products reached 42.33 billion US dollars and imports 11.10 billion US dollars. Thus, the trade surplus for halal products was 31.23 billion US dollars.

Also, there was a decline in the export value of halal products for 10 months by 18.77 percent compared to the same period last year. However, despite this, there has also been an increase in the volume of exports of halal products.

"In the period January-October 2023, there was an increase in the volume of exports of halal products by 8.10 percent. The increase in the volume of exports of halal products means that actually our export capacity has been good so far," said Didi.

For export performance per sector, continued Didi, in the January-October 2023 period, the processed food sector recorded an export value of 34.74 billion US dollars, the pharmaceutical sector amounted to 546.03 million US dollars, the cosmetics sector amounted to 362.49 million US dollars. US and the fashion or Muslim clothing sector amounted to 6.68 billion US dollars.
